Last Caress is a band formed based on the death of Kirby Puckett earlier that year. They figured that he was deserving of one last home run, and so the band named themselves Last Caress since the locals would refer to scoring as caressing. Although caressing is considered molesting, the 905 punk scene is short on punkettes, so every bit you can squeeze out is worth it. Their sound is very distinctive. Catchy riffs, slammin' beats, belching lyrics, often compared to Leftover Crack.

Though lyrics were never based on personal experience, they are very real on points including Adultery, Communism, and Euphoria. At the peak of popularity, they released a 4-song EP entitled Last Caress, though is commonly referred to as Last Caress: Unleashed. Demand was high and supply was limited, which eventually led to the demise of the local heroes.

[edit] History

As the 905 progressed, music scenes would rise and fall. One remained constant. This was the Ska/Hip-Hop scene. There would be wars over spots on shows since every band was looking to open for hot shots (i.e. Misfits, Springsteen, Metallica, etc.) and it was getting ugly. Three gentlemen felt it was their duty to restore the humanity. Originally incorporating humor into their performance, the original guitarist was murdered for not taking the industry seriously. Brody Huk abandoned his upright bass and got a longer, traditional electric bass, and Steven Erwood switched from cowbell to a normal percussion.

Struggling a two-piece, they held auditions for vocals. There was only one condition, and that was that you couldn’t be a better singer than the Hükz, who would be on back-up. Only one man was good enough, but he was infected with the Rage virus. He would infect family members and crowds of fans. Steve, or Shark, as he liked to be called, refused to play for mindless zombies since they "don't appreciate them jamz". Long-time friend and haircut-enthusiast Benjamin stepped up to the plate as guitarist, and Bizzrody took over vocals full-time. Steve took up lead MC, drawing inspiration from Fitty Sen. Chris Taylor, a local freshman, was signed as a second guitarist once Ben caught a slice of Rage from eating what he thought was a crumb off of Steve's basement floor.

[edit] The Fall and Aftermath

The band's hottie factor took a major nosedive when their youngest member Chris Taylor quit the band days before the CD release show. Unknowing of where Taylor would end up, fans mauled the merch table and requested multiple CD's. They quickly ran out of their EP and had to leave the show early as riots occurred. They laid low for a few days and upon returning to school were protested against claiming that they were being discriminant and elitist. The word got around and fans and the Milton Ska Crew (and associated bands) quickly shunned the boys of Last Caress. They did their best to regain cult status by re-releasing their EP with a bonus track. However, fans had moved on and their attempt at redemption flopped.

The original three members have all gone into hiding, switching schools and squats, and changing their names to avoid being nailed by swarms of adoring young punker girls and dudes with fetishes. It is rumored that Ben has moved to the Himalayas, searching for the Abominable Snowman.

[edit] The Legacy

Selling the rights to their recordings, their original EP was re-released again with an extended version of Sleepin' Around. It was re-released again with remixes of each song and the MySpace B-sides. Last Caress t-shirts are often seen in and around the Burlington area.

Attaining Silver-Status nationally, Last Caress is considered one of the most influential ska-bands to come out of the 905 area. They were nominated for "Best New Artist" on OntarioPunk.com. Their EP ranked third in Burlington for the month of January and was ranked 5th in the Winter Season 905.
